Welcome!

I am obsessed with nail polish. And makeup. And cell phones. Which one of these things is not like the other?! Hence the geek part :-)

My favorite easier-than-pie recipe

Has it REALLY been almost 6 months since my last post? Oops! This one is in no way related to the theme of my blog but I just wanted to share one of my absolute favorite foods. I have been making these for several years and they were never by any means hard to make, but they've gotten even easier and faster with some new ingredients that cut out a few steps. Last night I went from "What do you want for dinner?" at 5:00 p.m. to dinner on our plates at 6:00 p.m., and that was with frozen chicken. By the way, be warned that I am not by any stretch of the imagination a great cook, nor am I an expert at explaining the steps involved in a recipe, so pardon the amaturity. ;-) Anyway...without further ado...

Cream cheese & chicken pockets

Ingredients:
1 large or 2 small boneless skinless chicken breasts, thawed
1 10 oz container of Kraft Cooking Cream in Savory Garlic
1 can Pillsbury Crescent Seamless Dough Sheet

Directions:
Cook chicken via your preferred method (mine: wrap thawed chicken in foil and cook at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes). While chicken is cooking, prepare your crescents. Cut the sheet into 6 squares. When chicken is done, cut/pull it into shreds. Put in medium sized pan and add entire container of cooking creme (if you're using a nonstick pan, you shouldn't need any butter or oil since you're just going to be warming this for a minute or so). Cook over low heat just until creme softens. Spoon mixture into your crescent squares, leaving room for each corner to be pulled up. After all of your crescents are full, pull each corner up to meet in the middle. Pinch all edges closed so none of the mixture leaks out while they cook. Cook at 350 degrees just until the crescents start to turn light golden brown, about 10-12 minutes. If you're like me and a butter lover, melt some butter on them and ENJOY!

Mmmm...look at that ooey-gooey cream cheesy filling!

This dish is super easy and fun to experiment with. Try different flavors of Philadelphia's cooking creme, add other ingredients you like (mushrooms? diced onions?), or go lower-fat with Neufchatel cheese and low-fat crescents (you can easily pinch 2 triangle-shaped crescents into a square). The above is just my adapted version of a recipe a friend told me about many years ago! :-)

My new little bundle of joy!

So this is my new little guy! He was born on Aug 10 (so he's 5 weeks old today) and weighed 8.5 lbs and was 21.9" long. We are SO in love with him and he's such a great baby! He's growing waaay too fast though!

The above 2 were in the hospital.

Only 2 weeks old here, but doesn't he just have a wise-old-man look to him? LOL

Previous 2 at 4 weeks

Last 2 are from this week.

He's a little Mommy's boy already! If someone else is holding him and he starts fussing, I just have to walk over to him so he can see me and he quits crying. Gotta love that, he's well-trained already ;-)

Holy cow...er, pumpkin!

I popped into Meijer today for some baby formula (well, okay, that was just an excuse to check out the cosmetics endcaps, I do have about 12 cans on the shelf :P) and saw this year's pumpkin crop. Holy wow! There are so many different ones I'm not even sure I got pics of them all. And get this...I managed to not buy a single one! Nothing like 12 weeks of unpaid maternity leave to force a low buy! ;) Click the pics if you want to see them in larger detail.

Fine glitters

Chunky hex glitters

Randoms: orange multi-size glitter in a black (jelly?) base, flakie, orange and and black bar glitter, holo bar glitter

Glow in the darks

Black lights

Cremes

More randoms - holo moon shapes (I *think* it was only moons but I had to wrap up, an associate was getting suspicious of my picture-taking and kept moving in closer :P) in a black jelly base. I forget what the one on the right was - maybe it corresponds to the last close-up below? I don't know, I was a little overwhelmed, LOL!

Of course I didn't leave empty-handed though! They had a Rimmel display in the Halloween area. I'm not sure if these are new editions to the core line or not.

Thrill Seeker

Rags to Riches
For someone who professes to hate green polish, I sure have acquired plenty of it in the last 6 months! This is awesome - it's a cool olive with very find gold shimmer.

Finally, I was impressed by a Meijer visit for the first time in months! All the ones around me have been really lame lately - I used to be able to find new collections there reallllly early. Anymore...not so much!

Happy almost-Hump-Day everyone! :o)

Here come the Halloween displays! (Plus, surprise sighting of Dream Weavers)

I decided to pop into Rite Aid today since I was in the area (there are NO RA's in all of Columbus, Ohio - isn't that crazy?! There are CVS's & Walgreens on every corner!) for lunch. I was surprised to see Halloween stuff almost 3 months before the holiday, but even more surprised to see an untouched Wet 'n Wild Dream Weavers display! This NYC display was the only Halloween one out, but they had some more sitting in boxes waiting to be put out. I peeked around a little to see if I could find any pumpkin nail polishes, but no dice. I'm not sure how much the NYC stuff is new and how much is core. There were 4 rows of false lashes, 1 mascara (pretty sure it's core), 1 shadow palette, 2 polishes, 3 lipsticks, and 3 lip glosses.

I thought the glosses looked interesting (even though I didn't buy any) so I took pics.

This one has shimmer too, even though it doesn't show up very well in the pic.

I saved the most intriguing one for last. A black lip gloss. From the drug store. Huh. If I actually wore anything besides Carmex I'd have snagged this one just to see what it looked like on. My guess is it probably looks best layered over a lipstick or else I could see gray lips going on.

And then around the corner... *angels sing*... Dream Weavers! I really didn't expect to find these because I've been a little out of the beauty loop lately due to preparing for my baby's impending arrival - so I just read about these a few days ago. But...a FULL display! When I was at the register, the cashier looked at them and said "Oh, I wonder if these are the ones people have been calling about?" That surprised me because this Rite Aid is in a rural area. Guess I hit the jackpot today, huh?!

So anyway...a tiny haul + buffalo shrimp = a pretty good day!

New Kleancolor nail polishes... *I DIE*

I came home today to my eagerly-awaited package from Kleancolor...and boy, even though I'm all about instant gratification, these are SO worth the week's wait!!! Without further ado...

Chunky Holo Black, Chunky Holo Scarlet, Chunky Holo Poppy, Chunky Holo Candy (more pink than it looks - sorta pinky-coral)

Chunky Holo Fuchsia, Chunky Holo Purple, Chunky Holo Bluebell, and Chunky Holo Teal (Teal is just as duochrome as the other 3 here but it doesn't translate on camera well)

I didn't do any swatches yet, sorry! Preggers + long day at work + voting + back is *killing* me = one tired JenJen! :D. I know these will probably look best layered and I just don't feel like figuring out what to put them over tonight! So look for another post within the next week with swatches. :)
